Judith Lajoie, Ma. is a formerly battered woman, who along with Susan Mansfield opened the Haven of Grace in 1992. The Haven of Grace is a long-term transitional housing program for homeless women. The women who come to the Haven may be homeless as a result of battering, addictions, mental health issues, or general poverty. The program is designed to be long term with women being encouraged to remain two or more years. It is the mission of the Haven to "empower women to overcome poverty of body, mind and spirit". We work to empower women so that they may overcome the causes of their homelessness and to move on with their lives in a positive direction. We encourage the women to obtain their high school diplomas and to go on to college; we encourage women to become gainfully employed and free from state systems. The Haven offers counseling (individual and group), spiritual guidance, the twelve step program, mindfulness classes, life skills and any other basic skills needed to live independently and successfully.

Judith is a pastor who holds a PhD in Biblical Counseling. She and the Haven have been honored with many awards some of which have included: JCPenney Golden Rule Award, the Jefferson Award for Southern New England, CVS's Heart of the Community Award and of greatest notoriety - the Presidential Service Award presented to her by President Clinton in 2000.
